I created an illustrated infographic and map that traces my ancestors’ migration journeys from Norway and England to the United States. This piece is a deep dive into family history, visually exploring their movements over time. The map highlights the time periods during which each family arrived and provides insights into the modes of transportation they likely used. It details their journeys across oceans on sailing vessels and steamships, followed by their overland travels by wagons, trains, ox carts, or other methods available during their era. I also provide some pathways based on known routes and trails from the rivers to the midwestern homestead areas.

The migration routes tell fascinating stories: many of my Norwegian ancestors entered North America through ports in Quebec and Philadelphia, while the English branches of my family primarily arrived via New York. One intriguing discovery suggests a potential link to Jamestown, as one of the English families eventually settled in Connecticut during the very early colonial period.

The infographic combines historical research with artistry, aiming to connect viewers with the human element of migration—the courage, determination, and hope that shaped these journeys. By blending vibrant visuals and storytelling, it invites others to reflect on their own ancestral roots and the enduring impact of migration on identity and culture.
